Good News, Awards and Recognitions
Teri Hamann was nominated as one of the St. Joseph Women of Excellence for 2006 announced in the St. Joseph News-press Article on Friday, April 28th. The Awards Luncheon will be held at the St. Joseph Civic Arena on Thursday, June 15, at 11:30. Teri was one of twenty women nominated in the "Woman in the Workplace" category. If you would like to attend the luncheon and support Teri, call the Saint Joseph YWCA at 232-4481 by June 3 for reservations. The luncheon costs $35 per person and proceeds will benefit the YWCA. Congratulations Teri!
Alice Hareless, a custodian at Missouri Wester State University, was recognized by the University as an Outstanding Employee. The recognition was published in the St. Joseph News-Press on April 28, 2006. Alice also is the contractual custodian for the mission center office and for the Abundant Life Center. Congratulations Alice. We are proud of you.
US Air Force Community of Christ Chaplain Conducts Research on Divorce
Susan Calloway Selected to Participate in Suicide Prevention Research Congratulation to Susan Calloway for her recent selection to the Summer Research Institute on Suicide Prevention (SRI/SP) which is held at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York. Her selection was as a result of her application for a National Institutes of Health Grant to be a participant in the institute. As a participant, Susan will also make a presentation on a research issue in which she is currently involved. Susan is also working on her Doctorate in Nursing from UMKC which she hopes to complete by December of 2007. Susan recently re-wrote a paper she had written for one of her classes and submitted it to a leading professional nursing magazine. The article, entitled "Mental Health Promotion; Is Nursing Dropping the Ball?" has been selected for publication and will appear in the Sept/Oct edition of the Journal of Professional Nursing. Congratulations Susan!
Maryville Congregation enrolled in CPI Last fall, the Maryville Congregation overwhelmingly voted to apply for the fourth and last cohort of the Commissioned Pastor Initiative. In doing so, Charles Belcher, the current pastor at Maryville, received a supporting vote for a five year term as pastor, allowing him to apply for the pastor position. Both the congregation and the pastor were required to apply for the program. At the beginning of March, Maryville and Charles Belcher received word that they had been accepted as a CPI Congregation in the fourth cohort. Last Sunday, March 12 the congregation formally entered into the covenant agreement with the world church. Maryville is the second Far West Mission Center Congregation to become a CPI Congregation. ALC is just completing their first year as a CPI Congregation in the first cohort with Lynn Wilson as their CPI Pastor. Congratulations Maryville.
Buchanan County Agriculture Hall of Fame Friday, March 17, Gene Millard (Stewartsville Congregation) was inducted into the Buchanan County Agriculture Hall of Fame. Gene served with KFEQ Radio for 39 years, beginning as a farm broadcaster in 1964. He retired as vice president of Eagle Radio, but continues to work as host of the radio program "Agri-Shop", marketing consultant for the National Association of Farm Broadcasters and works on the family farm near Osborn. Gene was honored at the Farm/City
Breakfast which is held in honor of National Ag Day. This year it
was held at Central Christian Church, 1501 N. Leonard Road. This is the
second year the Agribusiness Committee of the St. Joseph Area Chamber
of Commerce has hosted the breakfast, Allan Johnson, deputy undersecretary
of rural development for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, was the featured
