Susan Calloway Selected to Participate in Suicide Prevention Research

Congratulation to Susan Calloway for her recent selection to the Summer Research Institute on Suicide Prevention (SRI/SP) which is held at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York.  Her selection was as a result of her application for a National Institutes of Health Grant to be a participant in the institute.  As a participant, Susan will also make a presentation on a research issue in which she is currently involved.

Susan is also working on her Doctorate in Nursing from UMKC which she hopes to complete by December of 2007.  Susan recently re-wrote a paper she had written for one of her classes and submitted it to a leading professional nursing magazine.  The article, entitled "Mental Health Promotion; Is Nursing Dropping the Ball?" has been selected for publication and will appear in the Sept/Oct edition of the Journal of Professional Nursing.

Maryville Congregation enrolled in CPI

Last fall, the Maryville Congregation overwhelmingly voted to apply for the fourth and last cohort of the Commissioned Pastor Initiative.  In doing so, Charles Belcher, the current pastor at Maryville, received a supporting vote for a five year term as pastor, allowing him to apply for the pastor position.  Both the congregation and the pastor were required to apply for the program.

At the beginning of March, Maryville and Charles Belcher received word that they had been accepted as a CPI Congregation in the fourth cohort.  Last Sunday, March 12 the congregation formally entered into the covenant agreement with the world church.

Maryville is the second Far West Mission Center Congregation to become a CPI Congregation.  ALC is just completing their first year as a CPI Congregation in the first cohort with Lynn Wilson as their CPI Pastor.

Congratulations Maryville.

Diane and Clarence Goold & Camp Farwesta

Featured in St. Joseph Newspress Article

Diane and Clarence Goold were featured in the March edition of the Saint Joseph Newpress Josephine Magazine.  The article talks about how Clarence and Diane met on the campgrounds and many of their memories about attending camps there.  It also tells of Diane's parents Ellis and Iris Stephens being the caretakers of Camp Farwesta for almost four years.  It is a very interesting read and will give you a chance to get to know our Farwesta caretakers a little better.  To read the article, click on the image on the right.
